Advocate Employees Play Basketball Brackets for Charity

April 11, 2019 admin 0 Comment

Team Advocate employees were offered to participate in a voluntary, company-wide pool for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Sports and non-sport fans alike were able to submit their bracket at no cost, playing for a charitable organization of their choice. The employees that placed first, second and third are awarded a donation to their selected charity.

We are pleased to announce our winners, the chosen charity and what it means to them.

1st place
Bruce Reynolds – Nationwide Children’s Ronald McDonald House ($300)

The last three years that I have been with Advocate I helped with the Spring Charitable event where Advocate buys, prepares, and serves dinner for the Nationwide Children’s Ronald McDonald House. It was very rewarding to see the children and their families just for a brief moment stop worrying about the health issues they are facing.

2nd place
Drew Clauson – Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center ($200)

Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center has been instrumental in providing care to my son Elliott, who was diagnosed with severe infantile scoliosis 2.5 years ago. Their orthopedics department has treated him through “Mehta” casts (casts that hold his torso as straight as possible for 8-12 weeks at a time) and we have seen his spine go from a 60-degree curve to under 30 degrees since he began treatment! Without this treatment, he would have a high risk of heart and lung problems due to limited space for his internal organs. All of the doctors, nurses, and staff have been stellar and we’ve had a first rate experience at CCHMC.

3rd place
Ric Flowers – Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption ($100)

I chose the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption because Children in Care are very near and dear to my heart. I used to be an adoption assessor and had the fortunate opportunity to work with their organization to find homes for children who were eligible for adoption. They provide training, resources and outreach programs to local adoption agencies and prospective adoptive/foster families to try and expedite a child’s wait time to be adopted. Their goals are truly related to the idea that every child needs a “Forever Family” and work with multiple organizations towards this outcome. Their hard work and dedication has helped to find homes for over 5,000 children as of 2015 and is trying to have their “Wendy’s Wonderful Kids” Program instituted in all 50 states over the next 12 years.

Advocate would like to congratulate our winners, and we are proud to support the charities that are so near and dear to their hearts.
